The land of Bedrestia

I have officially spent the night in a hospital, for the first time in my life. I still have bruises on my butt from the hard bed, but at least everyone was nice! They gave me a menu for breakfast and didn't even look at me funny when I circled almost everything on it. My husband did, but he didn't complain in the morning when I shared my bacon and bagel with him in the morning. I went in for a "follow up" on Friday afternoon (from a routine visit on Tuesday where my BP was a little high) and they ended up keeping me!

Not sure if the latest has made it into the mainstream news or not, but as a result of the high BP, I've been banished to bed rest (with bathroom privileges thank goodness!). That also includes limited permission on the computer, so at least I have an excuse now for my inconsistent blogging. The cause for my banishment is high blood pressure, but don't worry - every test they do on me (and believe me, they are doing a lot) - has come back normal enough for them to let me keep these boys in me for a while longer. I think I've actually donated about 14 pints of blood for tests, and the boys are getting really good at their non-stress tests. (They aren't stressed by the way...they seem to love the attention!)

Basically, I have pregnancy induced hypertension, which could lead to preeclampsia/toxemia (and strokes and all that nasty stuff). They're now monitoring me pretty close (requiring me to visit the hospital every few days to get more tests done) from here to delivery. I was hoping they would say "you're good...your blood pressure is down and you can go back to normal." No such luck. Unfortunatley, my BP has never really gone down enough for that to happen, but a girl can hope, right??

We did have another growth scan on Wednesday to make sure the boys are growing. The last one we had was on the 23rd of March, and they were 2 lbs 15 oz and 3 lbs even. Now, just three weeks later, they were 4 lbs 3 oz and 4 lbs 4 oz. Good jobs boys!! Despite everything, they are packing on the pounds just like they're supposed to. They also gave the boys some steroid shots (by way of my sore butt) last Friday and then Saturday night for lung development just in case they need to take them early, but as things are progressing, I have a feeling they are going to be able to stay in there for a while yet. I just have to stay down (which is MUCH harder than it seems) and stay relaxed.

It's not that I'm bored...I have to say even when there aren't a bunch of people here visiting, I've got a lot of good books and puzzles to keep me busy. The worst part is that there is NO position I can get in that is comfortable, whether it's the couch, the chair or the bed...but thank goodness we only need to keep these boys in for a little while yet (one day at a time...one day at a time...)

33 weeks, 3 days and counting...
